From Mica Sheet to Mica Gasket

Three steps — from raw mineral to precision-cut high-temperature gasket

STEP 01

Raw Mica Sheet

Natural Muscovite or Phlogopite sheet, thickness 0.5-6 mm, standard 1000 × 1200 mm or cut to size.

STEP 02

Precision Cutting

CNC or die-cut to your drawing — ring, full-face, oval, rectangular or complex geometry to ±0.2 mm.

STEP 03

Finished Mica Gasket

Rigid, dimensionally stable gasket with a mirror-smooth sealing face — no cold flow, no cracking, no aging.

What is a Mica Gasket?

A mica gasket is a precision-cut flat seal made from natural mica sheet, used where service temperature or electrical insulation demands exceed what conventional gasket materials can deliver. Because mica is a mineral with a layered crystalline structure, mica gaskets combine high compressive strength with thermal stability, dielectric strength (15-25 kV/mm), and near-zero moisture absorption. They do not cold-flow under load, do not age, and are chemically inert to most acids, alkalis and solvents.

As an experienced mica gasket manufacturer in China, Kaxite Sealing cuts gaskets from both Muscovite (up to 500°C) and Phlogopite (up to 900°C) sheet to your exact drawing. Related mica products: Mica Sheets, Mica Tapes and Mica Tubes.

Three Gasket Shapes

Ring Gasket

The classic RTJ-style ring that sits inside the bolt circle. Standard for high-pressure flanges.

ID / OD / Thickness specified

Full-Face Gasket

Covers the entire flange face including bolt holes. Better sealing for low-pressure or irregular flanges.

Bolt-hole pattern included

Custom Shape

Oval, rectangular or fully custom geometry cut to your drawing or CAD file at no extra tooling cost.

Temperature Performance

How mica gaskets compare against other high-temperature sealing materials

Phlogopite Mica Gasket 900°C
Muscovite Mica Gasket 500°C
Graphite Gasket ~450°C (oxidizing)
Non-Asbestos Gasket ~250°C

Where graphite gaskets oxidize and non-asbestos gaskets decompose, mica gaskets maintain their structural integrity and sealing force. This is why mica is preferred for exhaust systems, turbine housings and industrial burners.

Mica Gasket vs Other High-Temp Gaskets

Property Mica Gasket Graphite Gasket Non-Asbestos
Max Temperature 900°C 450°C (oxidizing) ~250°C
Dielectric Strength 15 – 25 kV/mm Conductive Low
Chemical Resistance Universal Universal (non-oxidizing) Depends on binder
Cold Flow None Moderate Moderate
Water Absorption < 0.1% Moderate High
Best For Automotive exhaust · Turbines Steam · Non-oxidizing service General industrial

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I choose a mica gasket over graphite or non-asbestos?

Choose mica when service temperature exceeds 450°C in air (graphite oxidizes above this) or when high-voltage electrical insulation is required (graphite is conductive). Mica is preferred for exhaust manifolds, gas turbine housings and industrial burner flanges. See Mica Sheets for the raw material.

Which mica type should I use — Muscovite or Phlogopite?

Muscovite mica gaskets work up to 500°C and offer the best dielectric strength — ideal for electrical insulation and moderate-temperature sealing. Phlogopite mica gaskets work up to 900°C and are preferred for automotive exhaust, turbines and industrial furnaces. Contact us with your service conditions for a recommendation.

What is the difference between a ring gasket and a full-face gasket?

A ring gasket sits inside the bolt circle — used for high-pressure or raised-face flanges. A full-face gasket covers the entire flange face including bolt holes — used for low-pressure or flat-face flanges where the bolts themselves need sealing. Send us your flange drawing and we will recommend the right shape.

Can you cut mica gaskets to my drawing?

Yes. We CNC-cut or die-cut mica gaskets to any shape or size — ring, full-face, oval, rectangular or complex CAD geometry — with tolerance ±0.2 mm. Please send your inquiry with a drawing or dimensions for a fast quotation. No extra tooling charge for standard thickness materials.

Do you provide Mill Test Certificate and documentation?

Yes. Every shipment includes Mill Test Certificate, dimensional inspection record and material composition report. RoHS and REACH documentation are available on request. See our Our Certificate page.

What is your MOQ, lead time and payment terms?

MOQ is 10 pcs for standard sizes. Lead time is 7-15 days after order confirmation. Payment terms are T/T or L/C. Free samples are available — you only cover the courier cost. Contact Us to discuss.

  • Mica gasket is a high-temperature, chemically-resistant sealing material made from high-grade phlogopite mica paper (an aluminosilicate of mineral origin) impregnated with a silicone binder. The phlogopite mineral gives the gasket its thermal characteristics and its outstanding resistance to solvents, acids and mineral oils, making it the preferred sealing material in automotive exhaust systems, gas turbines, heat exchangers and industrial burners. Kaxite supplies mica gasket as sheets (thickness 0.1–3.0 mm, width 1000 mm, length up to 2400 mm), as rolls (thickness 0.1–0.25 mm, width 500 or 1000 mm, length up to 300 m) and as custom strips or punched gaskets to drawing.
